Trastad 158 m asl

One of the most used sites in Kvæfjord, cleared right above Trastadsenteret. Especially in spring it can give intense flights with thermals to cloud base.

Before you launch

Landowner Do not land on the field directly below the bus shelter at Trastad. Contact someone in the club about landing before you fly.
Rotor from Kveøya Kveøya lies crosswise a couple of km in front, so the flying takes place in a kind of rotor. Over 6 m/s there can be dangerous turbulence. Lots of gusts on the fjord: do not fly.
Technical descent The slope extends far out over the sea. Without lift you end up low over forest, houses and power lines on the way down to the landing.

Launch

The launch is easy to get up to. Flown only in ridge lift.

  • SWW Mostly ridge soaring and thermal ridge soaring. Not a site for top-to-bottom flights.

Landing

Usually on the edge by the red boathouse, or on the road by the bus stop, which is more technical. If you land on the road, you must not obstruct traffic. Do not land on the field below the bus shelter. The landings along the sea are often in the lift zone, so it is easy to overshoot. Clear your landing with the club before you fly.

Always check the landing before you fly. If you land in a field, it must be agreed with the farmer, and the grass must not be tall.
