Storbakkan 340 m asl

A classic site with easy access and a short walk up, used both for training trips and long cross-country flights. Treat it with respect in strong wind.

Before you launch

Turbulence in strong wind The site has a nasty temper when the wind picks up, especially from E and SE. Max 5 m/s. The landing becomes very turbulent in wind over 5 m/s.

Launch

A grassy knoll by Storvatnet at Storjorda, between Sørvik and Straumen. A launch area with better ground than the lawn at home.

  • SWS Best direction, as the wind then blows straight onto the largest slope.
  • SEE Possible, but see Before you launch.

Landing

Landing at the foot of the knoll.

In winter and spring Storbakkan is used as a training hill, and you then land on the ice on Storvatnet. Check that the ice is safe.

Always check the landing before you fly. If you land in a field, it must be agreed with the farmer, and the grass must not be tall.
