Steinsåsen 488 m asl

One of the unknown gems, with a lovely launch area and one of the best top landing options. It takes little wind to soar in westerly wind.

Before you launch

Demanding landing in Storvassbotn Very demanding. Inspect it beforehand, and only experienced pilots should try.

Access

Parking
At the pump house by Steinsåsvannet.
Way up
Up the steep slope towards the top, a hard hike in rough terrain. Alternatively, probably the trail towards Grønnkollhytta, on past Musvatnet and up towards Middagsfjellet, on to Steinsåsen. That route has not been checked.
Time
About 45 min on foot

Launch

Two sides: west and southwest. The launch is partly a cliff and mountain launch, hence PP3.

  • NWW The west side. Best direction is NW.
  • SW Well-sheltered slope that can give incredibly good thermals in summer.

Landing

On the bog below the mountain.

Always check the landing before you fly. If you land in a field, it must be agreed with the farmer, and the grass must not be tall.
